The Ultimate Guide for Radon Reduction- Sub Slab Depressurization (SSD) System

There are different methods to lower radon levels in a building. The recommendation is always to prevent radon from entering the house via Sub Slab Depressurization (SSD). However,  in some cases, there is no choice but to reduce radon after it has entered the building.
The Sub Slab Depressurization is the most common method to perform a radon mitigation project. In this approach, the air pressure in the ground beneath the building is kept lower than the indoor air pressure. As a result, higher indoor pressure pushes the radon-laden air down and does not let it come up from the ground inside the building.
The SSD system could be passive (without a radon fan) or active (with a radon fan). Even though a very small pressure difference is enough to achieve this goal, a passive system is not sufficient in many cases. Plus, the passive SSD system is usually installed in new buildings, and many old buildings are not equipped with that.
In an active SSD system, a fan continuously sucks the air from the ground to decrease the ground pressure. Therefore, the radon fan is central to any active SSD system. In short, the radon fan is responsible for continuously sucking the ground air in order to keep the ground pressure under the building always lower than the indoor pressure.

Here are the minimum accessories that you need to install a standard SSD system. If you are a professional or need more accessories for your SSD system, please refer to the more completed list at the end of this page.

The products listed here are manufactured by the leaders in the field of radon mitigation systems, and our professionals have tested and confirmed their quality and compatibility. In fact, these are the exact products that we use for installing radon mitigation systems.

How to know if your SSD radon mitigation system is working properly?
Any radon reduction system needs some occasional maintenance to check its proper functioning. For example, in the case of SSD systems, it is recommended to control the airflow by using a manometer (a simple manometer is already added to the list above) or an airflow alarm (check the complete list). However, it is always a good idea to have a real-time radon monitor in a room with more occupancy time, like the bedroom. Practically most types of radon monitors are suitable for this purpose. Here in the list below, we have recommended some continuous radon monitors with a very fast response.
