Alpha radiation particles can’t penetrate a sheet of paper or a layer of skin. Beta and Gamma (X-Ray) radiation goes though much tougher materials.
RADEX ONE is specifically calibrated to detect and alert about dangerous radiation.
Uses low-voltage SBM-20-1 Geiger-Muller tube (the sensor) for detection. Calibrated with Cesium-137 isotope in our lab.
Ambient Radiation dose and Accumulative dose
One of the great features of this handy device is the Accumulative Dose mode, that shows how much radiation was detected over time, and not just immediate results.
Accumulative dosage is important and a rare feature for radiation detectors: most show immediate radiation levels only, and not prolonged exposure.

Radioactive materials are used in many consumer products. The most common of these is some smoke detectors which use radioactive Americium-241 to detect smoke particles in the air.
Other sources: natural granite, tobacco smoke, medical procedures such as Thyroid Radiation Treatment and contaminated produce.
Normal levels (sea level) are 0.10 – 0.30 uSv/h
